Visit to Van Veen Jachtbouw in Stellendam
With thanks to Marieke Zandijk and Patricia van Dieren for the report and photos.

At 10:30 AM, we were welcomed at Van Veen Jachtbouw with coffee and pastries. A lovely group of about 15 Trintella enthusiasts were eager to hear the experiences of the Poot family.
Using a clear PowerPoint presentation full of photos, Siem Poot guided us through the deck replacement project of their beautiful Trintella 42 Double Dutch. It was a great opportunity to ask experts Wim and Gerben van Veen questions.
For example, many people were curious about the decision: teak again or an alternative? The Poot family chose LIGNIA planks. LIGNIA is a very sustainable real wood that offers beauty and durability through a unique modification process. For those interested: see https://palmertimber.com/speciality-softwoods/lignia
But before the LIGNIA planks could be applied by the experts at Van Veen, the Poot family spent many hours removing and preparing the deck. During the presentation, Siem showed us their clever and practical solutions for removing the teak. Hats off to the tremendous job the Poot family did!
In addition to the deck replacement presentation, a second presentation was given on the replacement of the interior of another Trintella 42, which was also handled by Van Veen Jachtbouw. A wonderful display of craftsmanship.
After the presentations, we had the opportunity to view the Poot family's boat in person. The underwater hull had been "peeled" by hand down to the polyester last fall. Once it has dried sufficiently, it will be laminated with vinylester, and antifouling will be applied. Gerben van Veen explained that laminating provides a more robust protection than painting with epoxy.
On top, we admired the new deck. Even without the rubbering, it already looked stunning. Here too, the craftsmanship was clearly visible: every plank carefully laid, the seams perfectly aligned. All in all, it's already a boat to be envious of.
We wish the Poot family much joy and many beautiful miles once the boat is fully completed and thank the Van Veen family for their hospitality today.
After this very informative and enjoyable morning, we chatted a bit more nearby while enjoying some fish. In short, a successful morning!
