A beautiful spot has been reserved in the heart of Hoorn, at the visitor dock of the WSV Hoorn harbor. Upon entering the harbor of Hoorn, head towards the main tower (see the image below) and keep right before the lock. Follow the city wall on the port side, where at the end, you’ll recognize the visitor dock by the TVK flag. The dock is fully reserved for us. A maximum of two boats can dock side by side. If the dock is full, you can find an available spot nearby. Dinan (phone number above) will be available from 12:00 PM to guide you. Feel free to call him in advance to ask where the best place to dock is.

Saturday, May 31, 2025
After the excitement of the race and a good night's sleep, we'll start the Saturday with a relaxing walk along the dock. Participants in the "peeking at the neighbors" activity will hang the specially made "TVK flag" on their railing so you know you're welcome! If you don’t want visitors on your boat, simply don’t put up the flag.
In the afternoon at 1:30 PM, we gather at the crane to walk to the activities as a group (about 20 minutes). Participants in the multimedia presentation "The Story of Hoorn" and the city walk with city guide Aletta will walk along with Anne and Dinan. Note, there are a maximum of 20 spots available for the city walk! The remaining participants will walk with Mirelle to the Stichting Varend Erfgoed at the Oostereiland, where we’ll start with a presentation by Merwin on the history of shipping in Hoorn. Afterward, Merwin will give a tour of the workshop and museum harbor.

** Background Information Activity 1
Westfries Museum, Address: Nieuwstraat 23, 1621 EA Hoorn
‘Discover the Story of Hoorn’ has been developed by the Westfries Museum. The museum itself has been closed for a long time due to restoration and renovation. However, in the monument Statenpoort on Nieuwstraat, the museum continues to tell the stories of the history of Hoorn and West Friesland. Here, the museum brings history to life in an impressive way through images and sound: the inspiring starting point for discovering the city. The history of Hoorn comes to life in an innovative way through the multimedia show and podwalk ‘Discover the Story of Hoorn’. Experience a spectacular multimedia show on the monumental inner walls of the Statenpoort. In just 15 minutes, you will discover all the historical highlights of Hoorn.

City Guide Tour with Alette
Starting point: The Statenpoort (across from Hema), Nieuwstraat 23, 1621 EA Hoorn
During a tour, the stately buildings and sights come to life through the stories of the people behind the facades. You’ll view the beautiful Foreestenhuis differently when you hear the story of the immensely wealthy widow of Foreest, who began a relationship with her housemaid around 1775. The Jan Haringsteeg will never be forgotten once you learn about the pivotal role it played during the Battle on the Zuiderzee. On this tour, we can’t avoid the controversial Jan Pietszn. Coen, but the story of his young wife Eva Ment is just as intriguing.
Through these and other stories, you’ll start seeing Hoorn with new eyes. A tour with Alette is both an educational and, above all, a fun activity!

Ridderikhof restaurant

Where the Varend Erfgoed Centre now stands, there was once a shipyard belonging to the Admiralty in the 18th century. You can still feel the atmosphere of an old woodworking shop here. You can still smell the scents of linseed oil, pitch, wood, and brown tar.
Since 1989, we, as owners of historical commercial ships, have had our work, mooring, and storage spaces here. Initially in and around the old sawmill of the former prison on the island, and now in a distinctive new complex.

Tips & Tricks

  • Hotel Oostereiland is a great option for participants without a boat.
  • Less mobile? Choose Activity 2 and take the water taxi!
  • Want to park close to the WSV harbor? Program ‘ABC Hoorn’ into your navigator!
  • Participation in the "friendly app" is optional, and you can say and share anything in it (well, almost anything...) but especially post lots of photos of the different program components.
