Our former chairman and honorary member Jan van Poppelen has passed away. A week after him, his wife Tineke also died. Jan was chairman of the TVK for more than 10 years until 1995. He was a real doer, a man of few words and a lot of action. By profession, Jan was a road and bridge builder, but in the TVK he had often done it himself before others knew what was going to happen.
The best example of this is that when Jan heard of the bankruptcy of the shipyard, he immediately contacted the trustee, got in the car and managed to take the entire archive with him. Something that our association still enjoys a lot today. The booklet with an overview of all ships, which was published on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the association, was also largely from his hand. After his period in Greece, he visited our spring meeting in Hellevoetsluis in 2014, after which the boat was sold, and in 2017 he last visited the autumn meeting in Kampen, where the accompanying photo was taken. Goodbye Jan and Tineke
